ALL EYES ON ANTARCTICA HOLDING CCAMLR TO ITS CONSERVATION MANDATE

THE CLIMATE CASE FOR ENHANCED MARINE PROTECTION OF THE SOUTHERN OCEAN

ALL EYES ON ANTARCTICA: HOLDING CCAMLR TO ITS CONSERVATION MANDATE, AND ITS RECOMMENDATIONS HAVE BEEN SUPPORTED BY:

Our newly released report calls upon the international community to reverse the course of decline in Antarctic marine protection and reinstate CCAMLR as the guardian of the Southern Ocean by implementing the following actions:

01

CLOSE THE SOUTHERN OCEAN TO KRILL FISHING

and safeguard the integrity of Antarctic wildlife and Antarctic ecosystems and aid global climate stability;

02

AGREE TO ESTABLISH THE DOMAIN 1 MARINE PROTECTED AREA (MPA)

eradicating krill fisheries within, as a minimum step forward towards the establishment of an ecologically representative network of marine protected areas in the Southern Ocean;

03

CALL FOR THE REFORMATION OF CCAMLR

to ensure the implementation of its conservation mandate to protect Antarctic wildlife;

04

ENSURE THE PROTECTION OF AT LEAST 30% OF ANTARCTICA’S WATERS

as a key contribution by CCAMLR countries to the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework 30×30 target.

ALL EYES ARE ON ANTARCTICA AND CCAMLR TO IMPLEMENT THE CONSERVATION MANDATE IT HAS AGREED TO, NOW IS THE TIME TO STEP UP
